Report
Old Senate Chamber
A physical investigation of the remaining evidence for the original appearance of the Old Senate Chamber in 2007 culminated in this 257 page interim report. It compares all of the physical and archival evidence to date by feature to arrive at reasonable conclusions for what the room looked like in 1783 when Washington resigned his military commission and the Treaty of Paris was ratified in this room. The result is ornately Georgian, thus befitting a space that was competing to become the national capitol: quarters that contrasts sharply with the appearance of the room since the 1905 restoration.
