Project Begins
Wyck House & Gardens
The project at Wyck began by assessing the health of the lime stuccoed stone walls. Although we learned a lot from tapping the walls listening for hollow sounds to suggest delamination, this was not always a reliable indicator of adhesion. Adjoining portland cement however guaranteed failure of the surrounding original lime stucco. Having read a variety of texts talking about milk of lime and limewater as consolidants, we began gravity feeding lime mixtures into friable stucco and even tested means of supporting and holding together delaminated sections of stucco while debris behind was removed in an attempt to readhere these sound but loose sections back in place. These tests were only minimally successful at this point.
